APRS welcomes free power to farm sector

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, MAY 16. The State secretary of Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham (APRS) affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI), K. Ramakrishna, has welcomed the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's decision to sign orders on providing free power to farm sector and waiver of farm power dues, soon after assuming the office.

Talking to newspersons here on Sunday, he said that the Chief Minister's positive response towards the problems of the farming community raised the hopes of farmers. He said the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Government had never provided any reprieve to the farmers in spite of several agitations taken up by the Left and the Congress parties. About 3,000 farmers had committed suicide in the State during the TDP regime but it had failed to provide succour to the families of victims in any way, he alleged.
