PATNA, MAY 16. Intent on ending criminal-politician nexus, controversial former Bihar DGP D P Ojha, who entered the electoral fray as an independent from Begusarai Lok Sabha seat had to eat a humble pie polling over 5,000 votes, whereas the alleged kingpin of the CAT question paper leak scam Ranjit Singh alias Ranjit Don getting over 60,000 votes. Ojha, who polled 5,780 votes, lost his security deposit while Ranjit Singh, who also contested as an independent from Begusarai stood third with a total of 61,352 votes. Janata Dal (United) nominee Rajiv Ranjan Singh won the Begusarai seat defeating his nearest Congress rival and former Union Minister Krishna Shahi by nearly 20,000 votes. The former DGP, who was ousted from the top police job after he submitted a 100-page report on RJD strongman from Siwan Mohammad Shahabuddin in December last year had drawn good crowds during his public meetings across the state. Intent on ending the criminal-politician nexus, Ojha after being removed from the post of DGP urged people to get rid of criminal elements. While, Ojha secured less than one per cent of the total 6,78667 valid votes in Begusarai, Ranjit Singh, who was arrested by the CBI when Ojha was DGP of Bihar garnered more than nine per cent votes. But, undettered by the humiliating defeat, Ojha told PTI here ``I will continue to raise voice against criminal- politician nexus and misdeeds of the state government in the best of my capacity.''
