Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, MAY 16. Many Congress leaders in the district have a reason or two to stake their claim to a Cabinet berth in the State Government. The Mylavaram MLA, Chanumolu Venkata Rao, holds aloft seniority as his trump card. Besides, his induction would give a representation to Kamma community in Krishna district. The Kankipadu MLA, Devineni Rajasekhar, who is close to the former Chief Minister, is aspiring for ministership as he was elected to the Assembly for the fifth time. He had served as a minister in the N.T.Rama Rao Cabinet too. The former Deputy Chief Minister, Koneru Ranga Rao, elected from Tiruvuru-SC reserved constituency, too is playing the `experience' card for his Cabinet berth. The Jaggayyapeta MLA, S. Udaya Bhanu, is hoping that his closeness with the Chief Minister would fetch him a ministerial position. Yerneni Raja Ramachander, who was elected from Kaikalur for a second successive term, is citing this as a reason for his claim. Mandali Budha Prasad of Avanigadda is maintaining that since he is the DCC president who led the party to victory in the district and since his father, the late M.V.Krishna Rao, served as a minister for a long time, he should be made a minister. The former Deputy Speaker, Buragadda Veda Vyas, who was elected from Malleswaram, is vying with Mr. Prasad as he too belongs to Kapu community. Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, elected from Vijayawada East constituency, is trying to pull strings with the help of the former Union Minister, P. Upendra, stating that he is the "youngest'' legislator in the House. For Perni Nani of Machilipatnam, lineage is the reason to aspire for a ministerial berth, while K.P.Sarathy of Vuyyur is flashing the BC card. His experience as the APCOB chairman has prompted Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, who was elected for a second consecutive term from Mudinepalli, to make a bid for the Cabinet. The Nuzvid MLA, Meka Pratap Appa Rao hopes that he would be inducted into the Cabinet as he is the lone leader from Velama community in these parts after the defeat of Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao.
