CHENNAI, MAY 16. Two persons have died in a cholera outbreak in Northern Chennai over the last few days. Civic and health officials suspect that the outbreak could be following a break in Metrowater pipeline. The officials said both the victims were diagnosed for cholera in private clinics. They died while being transferred to the Chennai Corporation-managed Communicable Diseases Hospital at Tondiarpet. The hospital has already admitted more than 120 cholera-inflicted patients from Otteri, Pattalam, Pulianthope and Choolai. The civic agency has appealed to residents not to drink any water straight from the Metrowater pipeline. The breakage in the pipeline could have occurred between the Kilpauk treatment plant and Chennai Harbour, officials said. On Saturday, Dhanam, a resident of Haji Mohammed Appa Street, Perambur, was diagnosed for cholera in a private clinic on Friday. Corporation sources said her condition aggravated on Saturday, and she was taken to the Corporation hospital. She died on the way. On Thursday, Alagesan, 23, a resident of Hanumantaroyan Koil Street, Patel Park, also of Perambur, died while being taken to the Corporation hospital. Earlier he was admitted to a private clinic.
