HYDERABAD, MAY 16. Newly-elected MLA from the Ghanpur Assembly constituency, G. Vijaya Rama Rao, has demanded conversion of Dharamasagar tank in Warangal district as summer storage tank to supply drinking water to the villages in the constituency. He has also sought early initiation of works to build flood flow canal to irrigate western Warangal and Karimnagar districts. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, Dr. Rama Rao has said that the people of the area had voted for the Congress and the TRS following their promise to solve the irrigation and drinking water problems which have been afflicting the area for the past many years. He said that ground water in the Ghanpur constituency is contaminated with fluoride and has also depleted due to prolonged drought. Water from the Devadula or Kakatiya canal could be stored in the Dharmasagar which should be delinked from Warangal Municipality, he argued.
