Temperature

MADURAI, MAY 16 . The city today registered a maximum temperature of 37.1 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25 degree Celsius. The Madurai airport recorded a rainfall of 8 mm.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam stood at 110.10 feet with an inflow of 64 cusecs and a discharge of 250 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 23.62 feet with an inflow of 215 cusecs and a discharge of 30 cusecs.

The amount of rainfall registered at various places during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. today (in mm) was: Viraganur — 26, Andipatti — 22, Madurai — 17, Idayapatti — 15, Chittampatti — 14, Peranai — 12, Kallandiri — 11, the Vaigai dam — 9, the Periyar dam — 8, Tekkadi — 5, and Shanmugandi and the Sathaiyar dam — 2 each.

Exams put off

The Directorate of Distance Education, Madurai Kamaraj University, has put off non-semester examinations scheduled for May 19 and 20.

The examinations for B.Com Old Syllabus part-II-English Prose and B.Com revised syllabus and B.Com (CA)-part-II English will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 30, the Additional Controller of Examinations (in charge), A. Srinivasan, has said in a release.

Projects reviewed

The Railway Board Member (Engineer), S. P. S. Jain, held discussions with officials on the projects being implemented in the Madurai Railway Division, recently. He also inspected works at Madurai, Mandapam, Pamban bridge and Rameswaram, according to a railway release.

He was accompanied by N. Aravindan, Chief Administrative Officer, D. C. Mitra, Chief Engineer (Coordination), R. K. Singh, Chief Bridge Engineer, Srivatsava, Chief Engineer (Construction), and R. K. Goyal, Chief Planning and Design Engineer, Southern Railway.
