CUDDAPAH, MAY 17. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is playing a prominent role in facilitating dissemination of information to various part of the world within seconds, according to the General Manager of Telecom, Cuddapah, K.K. Thakur. Presiding over the World Telecommunications Day celebrations at Kalakshetram here this evening, he said India had a 270 lakh cellular phone subscriber base. Stating that seven out of a population of every 1,000 now possessed cell phones, Mr. Thakur said that the BSNL was growing rapidly. The BSNL was covering 300 cities and 5,000 towns through Internet, he added. Old customers and commercially important subscribers were felicitated on the occasion.
