Girls bag top honours in SSLC exam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 17. Girls bagged the top honours in the SSLC examination held in March 2004, the results of which were announced here today.

The first rank was shared by two girls, one of the two students who shared the second rank is a girl and of the five candidates sharing the third place, three are girls.

Remya K. of St. Thomas CEMGHS, Olavakkode, Palakkad and Dhanya G. of Nirmala Bhavan Higher Secondary School, Kowdiar, Thiruvananthapuram, led the more than six lakh students who had appeared for the examination conducted by the Department of General Education of the Government of Kerala. Both of them secured 591 marks out of a maximum of 600.

For Shamil M. of the Government Model HSS, Kozhikode, it indeed is a rare honour, since he is the only candidate to win a rank from among the candidates presented for the SSLC examination this year by the Government schools in the State. With 589 marks, he shares the second rank with Mable Baby of the Infant Jesus EMHS, Thiruvambady in Kozhikode district.

It is just one mark that differentiates the winners of the second rank with those of the third. Rita Mary Tomy of the Nirmala HSS School, Aluva, Ernakulam, Safi Salim, of the St. Joseph's Convent Girls' HS, Kollam and Ancy A., of the Carmel Girls's HS, Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram, are the three girls who secured 588 marks to emerge third in the State. The two boys sharing the same distinction are Jansher E. of METEM HS, Mannarkkad, Palakkad and Shafeeq S. of MMRHS. Kaimanam, Thiruvananthapuram.

The first rank in the State among the Scheduled Caste candidates who had appeared for the SSLC examination was bagged by Aswathi Asok of St. Michaels's Girls' HS, West Hill, Kozhikode. She secured 586 marks and has the fifth rank in the overall tally in the State. Among the Scheduled Tribe candidates, the winner of the first rank is Sreejith J.S., a student of the Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram. He secured 552 marks in the aggregate.

There are 237 claimants for the first 15 ranks in the State, with marks ranging from 591 to 576. Among the candidates who had appeared for the examination at the centres in the West Asian countries, Puliparambil Laya of the Model School, Abu Dhabi, UAE, is the topper. With 582 marks, she secured the ninth rank in the State.
