ADILABAD, MAY 17. Laying of bypass roads in Nirmal and Adilabad towns on the National Highway No. 7 is seriously being considered as technical work on widening of the 110 km. stretch got under way two days ago. The extent of rehabilitation and resettlement related to the proposed land acquisition along either side of the 110-km stretch Soan in Nirmal and Penganga in Jainad mandal in Adilabad district is being worked out at present. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would acquire about 800 acres of land for widening of the existing road. NHAI Manager at Hyderabad, Mr. A. V. Rao, said land acquisition by the district's Revenue Department would start by July end. Work on the road widening project would begin by November. "We have already given a report towards notification under the NH Act, 3A, listing out the names of villages where land has to be acquired. The extent of land to be acquired by the Revenue authorities under each village was being worked out," said Mr. Nikhil Pandey, Managing Director of Sanrachana, the technical consultants on the road widening project of NHAI. "Besides the R&R work survey on changes in present alignment of the road, location and design of bridges on the highway would be completed in a few days. Traffic survey on the busy road has already been submitted to the NHAI," revealed Mr. Saxena, Director (technical), Sanrachana. The existing highway cuts through about 20 villages and the towns of Nirmal and Adilabad. Land acquisition to the extent of between 15 mts and 30 mts for the purpose of widening was expected to cause much displacement in the major towns and the mandal headquarter village of Ichoda. In the two towns and Ichoda, many buildings would have to be partly and in some cases fully demolished for the purpose of widening of the road. The extent to which land would be acquired and buildings demolished would depend on the new alignments on the road to be proposed in a few days. "Meanwhile, the laying of bypass roads in Adilabad and Nirmal towns are being considered and a final decision on this would be known in a day or two," Mr. Saxena informed . The construction of bypass roads would ease much pressure on the existing highway that passes through these towns.
