dated May 19, 1954: Tribute to Sankaracharya

Sri Agnihotram Ramanuja Thathacharya of Kumbakonam writes: "The Hindu community has great reason to consider Tuesday, May 18, 1954, as a day of rejoicing, for on that day Sri Sankaracharya Swami of Kamakoti Peetam completes the sixtieth year of his life. After the prevailing agnosticism and atheism of the early years of this century, there has been a marked religious revival, especially in South India, and this is, in a large measure, due to the inspiring influence of His Holiness, who has always set his face against sectarian exclusiveness. He may well be called the prophet in modern times of religious reconciliation and religious harmony, so far at least as Hinduism is concerned. It is, therefore, the earnest prayer of all Hindus that God should confer His blessings on them by endowing His Holiness with long life and excellent health."
