THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 18. The Department of General Education has issued show-cause notices to 51 schools, including high schools, higher secondary and vocational higher secondary schools, asking why action should not be initiated against them for resorting to malpractice in the public examinations of March 2004. The special squads constituted by the department had made surprise checks in these schools when the SSLC, Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary examinations were on in March. These schools, including those under the Government, have been directed to submit their explanation within 15 days, failing which action would be initiated against them. The action would include withdrawal of the examination centre status, if not the cancellation of their recognition, the notice said.
