Polish film festival opened

NEW DELHI MAY 18. A festival of Polish films was inaugurated today at Marwah Studio by the Ambassador of Poland in India, Krzysztof Majka . Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Ambassador said recent archival records have revealed that Polish-Indian relations are over 70 years old.

Being organised by the Asian Academy of Film and television in collaboration with the Federation of Film Societies of India, the festival is part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Polish-Indian diplomatic relationship and would provide movie lovers the chance to see some of the best films of Polish cinema.

Fine show by Gurgaon school

NEW DELHI MAY 18. Shri Ram School, Gurgaon, has recorded a 100 per cent pass result in the Class XII examinations conducted by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations announced today.

According to a release issued by the school today, all 84 students who appeared for the examination have secured first division, with nearly 85 per cent of them achieving distinction. Nearly 25 students have secured an aggregate of above 90 per cent with two students securing 96 per cent.

The Class X results were also equally good, with 103 of the 104 students who appeared for the examinations securing first division with 79 per cent of them achieving distinction. The highest aggregate scored is 96.6 per cent with 56 students securing aggregates above 80 per cent.

Textbooks distributed

NEW DELHI MAY 18. The Delhi Finance Minister, A.K. Walia, said that every child should be well educated and this was possible only with the help of social organisations. He was speaking at the 29th annual textbooks distribution function of Tarun Mitra Parishad for needy students here this past Sunday.

Appreciating the efforts made by the Parishad for the upliftment of the backward sections of society for the past 29 years, Dr. Walia expressed satisfaction over the availability of socially enlightened individuals for providing service to those who badly need it.

On the occasion, Dr. Walia honoured 12 meritorious students with silver medals and a handicapped student with the Subodh Chand Jain memorial award.

The Parishad distributed textbooks, notebooks and stationery to more than 500 needy students.

New opportunities by Oriflame

NEW DELHI MAY 18. The motivational guru, J. Kirk Rector, has said that new opportunities would be provided by the Swedish cosmetic company, Oriflame, for its consultants and new entrants in terms of financial independence, international acclaim, foreign trips and cash rewards. Mr. Rector, who is not only a consultant to major international corporations but also a lawyer, was addressing a seminar organised by the Oriflame India Private Limited here this weekend.

"Oriflame is known for bringing a promise of happy life to its consultants and we are sure that this motivational lecture has added substance to their lives and would help them to grow further," said the CEO of Oriflame India, Thomas Ekberg.

YMCA office-bearers

NEW DELHI MAY 18. The Board of Directors of Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) unanimously elected Elwin N. Nathaniel as president for a one-year term here this past week. This is his third consecutive term as the YMCA president.

While Air Commodore, B.J. Berry, Raymond Myles and George Verghese were the elected vice-presidents for the term 2004-2005, Stephen Da Costa was elected the honorary treasurer.
