Letters to the Editor
Sir, Like a number of Pakistanis I am an envious admirer of India's democracy. However, India's democratic process must also keep pace with the aspirations of the people. In this context, it was rather disappointing to see the outrage against recognising the people's verdict and a refusal by many Indians to allow an Indian of foreign birth to become Prime Minister. One would have imagined there would be scepticism against the rule of dynasties but instead the argument narrowed down to the birthplace of an individual. A foreign-born Indian elevated to being the Prime Minister of India only adds to the diversity and democratic culture of India. Protests against such a move smack of intolerance.
