Sir, The author of today's liberalisation and globalisation, most will agree, is none other than Manmohan Singh. Sonia Gandhi's preference for Mr. Singh to head the country deserves praise. It also shows her sense of commitment to her party, family and not least to the country. Her decision to forgo the highest popularly elected office of the world's largest democracy should be respected and not diluted with the sentiments and emotions as vociferously expressed by her supporters and detractors in equal/unequal measure.

Sir, Ms. Gandhi took the party to the heights by winning the elections. By now backing Dr. Singh, an able and honest politician, as Prime Minister, she has shown her political maturity.
