Letters to the Editor
Sir, Ms. Gandhi has been the unquestionable leader of the Congress for almost a decade now. That the party has been revived under her leadership is also true. But this does not entitle her to become Prime Minister. It is a question of sentiment. No logic or law can ever overcome sentiment. Her dignity in public life is very much evident and has gained her enormous respect from all. But the nation too has paid her back amply by giving her the kind of recognition and respect she probably would never have received in Italy.
Krishna Murthy,
Sir, It is puzzling that the Congress president took so long to decide against becoming the Prime Minister. The decision could have come much earlier to hasten the process of formation of the government. The Congress MPs were seen virtually pleading with their leader to reconsider her decision. Was there any need to enact this emotional drama in full view of the people of India?
C.M. Umanath,
Sir, The Congress shouting brigade gave us a great day of entertainment. We knew all along that inducting professional actors and actresses was among one of the firsts introduced by the party. But we never knew that all the Congress members were superstars in the thespian arts. What is more they can produce tears without glycerine.
K. Vijayan,
