11 cm rain in Valparai
CHENNAI, MAY 19. Southwest monsoon has been active over Kerala. Rainfall occurred at most places over Kerala and coastal Karnataka and at a few places over Lakshadweep and south interior Karnataka. Isolated rainfall occurred over coastal Tamil Nadu and north interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather prevailed over coastal Andhra Pradesh and dry weather over Rayalaseema and Telangana. The following stations recorded heavy rainfall in cms.: Valparai and Virajpet (Kodagu dt.) 11 each, Begamandala (Kodagu dt.) 10, Munnarkad (Palakkad dt.) and Quilandy (Kozhikode dt.) 9 each and Tirukoilur (Villupuram dt.), Napoklu and Ammathy (both Kodagu dt.) 7 each. The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cms are: Thalaserry (Kannur dt.), Agumbe, Kozhikode and Kunnamkulam (Thrissur dt.) 5 each, Chittur (Palakkad dt.), Punalur, Ottapalam and Pattambi (both Palakkad dt.), Kodungallur (Thrissur dt.), Honavar, Dharmastala (Dakshina Kannada dt.), Mudigere (Chickmagalur dt.), and Yercaud 4 each, Kollengode (Palakkad dt), Thrissur, Karwar, Puttur (Dakshina Kannada dt.) and Londa (Bijapur dt.) 3 each, Aluva (Ernakulam dt.), Madikeri, Subrahmanya (Dakshina Kannada dt.) and Somwarpet (Kodagu dt.) 2 each and Kanjirapally (Kottayam dt.), Siddapur (Udupi dt.), Mangalore, Kundapur and Kota (both Udupi dt.), Gudalur Bazaar (Nilgiris dt.) and Senkottai (Tirunelveli dt.) 1 each. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature rose at a few places over south interior Karnataka, at one or two places over coastal Tamil Nadu, fell at one or two places over interior Tamil Nadu and north coastal Andhra Pradesh and changed a little elsewhere over the region. They were appreciably to markedly below normal at most places over interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, at many places over Telangana, Tamil Nadu, below normal at many places over coastal Andhra Pradesh.
