Improve Tirupur infrastructure, hosiery manufacturers tell panel
By Our Staff Reporter
COIMBATORE,
MAY 19.
The South India Hosiery Manufacturers' Association has sought measures by the Textiles Committee to improve infrastructure at Tirupur and ensure uninterrupted power supply to the industries.
It submitted a memorandum to the committee during the inauguration of a business centre on the association premises at Tirupur yesterday.
Mohan P. Kandasamy, SIHMA president, said knitwear exporters had to grow not only to retain their present market share but also to enhance it.
The association and the committee had organised a visit to China and planned to organise a visit to Canada.
SIHMA requested the committee to take up efforts under the cluster development programme to improve infrastructure in the town, ensure uninterrupted water and power supply, modernisation of Chennai, Tuticorin and Kochi ports and set up training institutions for workers.
Mr. Kandasamy said to boost garment exports to Spain, France, the United Kingdom and Italy, more buyer-seller meetings should be organised and trade visits organised.
With 10 more countries having joined the European Union, market studies of these countries would help the exporters to a great extent.
