Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, MAY 19. The Pondicherry unit of the AIADMK today alleged that the government was ignoring the constituencies of the Opposition parties, especially Uppalam and Muthialpet, which are represented by AIADMK MLAs. Speaking to presspersons here, the party secretary, A. Anbalagan, cited the instance of the Kamarajar Housing Scheme for families belonging to the below poverty line (BPL) category. "In the Chief Minister's constituency, the third instalment of amount has been sanctioned to the people living in huts and had applied for the scheme but in Uppalam not even the first instalment of Rs 40,000 has been disbursed. This is the same case with Muthialpet," he alleged. Mr. Anbalagan threatened that his party would stage dharna in front of government offices if the government did not distribute free saris and dhotis to the needy and also free rice and Rs 300 to fishermen within 10 days. He also suggested that the election department provide forms for voters to register their names in the electoral rolls to either local MLAs or to anganwadi workers.
