Mandal official denies reports of starvation death

By Our Staff Reporter

NALGONDA, MAY 19. The district administration here has refuted news reports that a carpenter, Bangaru Ramachary (45), of Mukundapuram in Nereducharla mandal died of starvation on May 15.

"He died of ill-health, not because of hunger,'' the Nereducharla Mandal Revenue Officer, M. Mohan Reddy, said in a press release on Wednesday. He claimed that he personally visited the village and conducted an open enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the carpenter's death.

Quoting the rural medical practitioner, Budige Chandrasekhar, who had treated the victim before he breathed his last, the Mandal Revenue Officer said Chary's blood pressure and heartbeat were abnormal. "Chary died at Penchikaldinne village while being shifted to a hospital at the mandal headquarters. Mr. Chandrasekhar, who was with him at the time of his death, brought the body to his native place,'' Mr. Mohan Reddy said. The MRO also said Chary, a white card holder, got rice from the fair price shop till March but he could not get the April quota due to financial problems.
