Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, MAY 19. The ruling Congress leadership in Uttaranchal feels that by walking away from the Prime Minister's post Sonia Gandhi has emerged much taller than any of her opponents in the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance. Addressing newspersons here today, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Indira Hirdeyesh, said that it was the second time in the history of the Congress that the recognized leader had proposed someone else's name for the Prime Ministership, the first instance being Mahatma Gandhi proposing the name of Jawaharlal Nehru when India got independence. Describing the tirade against Ms Gandhi by the BJP, especially its women leaders, as shameful, Ms Hirdeyesh said that it showed that the BJP and its NDA partners had no respect for the Constitution. The people are watching and will definitely teach a befitting lesson to the NDA in future elections. Earlier, a number of Congress workers staged a dharna at the State Congress office and burnt flags and an effigy of the BJP at Clock Tower.
