MANGALORE, MAY 19. As many as 250 volunteers of the National Service Scheme will participate in a 10-day special camp to clean up the Seegadikere in Karkala taluk of Udupi district from May 24. A press release from the Programme Coordinator, NSS, Mangalore University, said the volunteers had cleaned up the tank in association with Rotary Club, Karkala, and the people of that town in May 2003. They had also participated in desilting the tank, besides the construction of a footpath leading to it. This time, they would remove the hyacinth and do other work, the release said. They would also repair the canals surrounding the two mini-islands that had been created to enable birds to nest in the area.
