Solid waste management project

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, MAY 19. The Kochi Corporation is slowly moving towards the Supreme Court directive of setting up solid waste management project in the city. The Corporation is actively pursuing the proposal submitted by the Karnataka-based Vermi-compost Development Corporation in this regard.

The civic body had invited the Karnataka Corporation for setting up a plant in the city following the Apex Court's directive for setting up solid waste management projects in all the civic bodies in the country by December 2003.

The State Government had short listed two agencies for setting up the project including the Karnataka Vermi-compost Development Corporation in Kochi. However, the Kochi Corporation has decided to go ahead with the proposal submitted by the Karnataka firm.

The representatives of the Karnataka agency had visited the site identified by the Corporation at Brahmapuram for setting up the project.

The Corporation council will have to formally approve the proposal for the civic body to go ahead with the project.
