HYDERABAD, MAY 19. Protesting the Weights and Measures Department's move to collect a fine of Rs. 100 per day from autorickshaw drivers who do not recalibrate their meters, the Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee has called for a day's auto bandh in the twin cities on May 24. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the JAC convener, Mohd. Amanullah Khan, said the bandh would be observed to pressurise the Transport Commissioner to extend the time for meter recalibration by one month. The JAC also condemned the Transport Commissioner's reported statement that he had not extended the time for recalibration. The JAC claimed that the Commissioner had verbally agreed on May 15 to extend the deadline by another 15 days.
