HYDERABAD, MAY 20. Even as rural private engineering colleges are opposing the sanction of new engineering colleges in the State, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has reportedly given permission to 12 new engineering colleges with 2,800 seats. The No Objection Certificates had been given by the earlier Government. The orders, however, are yet to reach the A.P. State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE). Officials said, the number of engineering seats in the State have now gone up to 68,760 with the new colleges and the number of colleges to 237. Last year, more than 11,000 seats fell vacant, and this year too the number of vacant seats is expected to go up as while the number of seats has increased, the number of aspirants has gone down considerably.
