NAAC accreditation for Zamorin's College

KOZHIKODE, MAY 21. The Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College here has bagged the "B++'' level accreditation of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to assess and accredit institutions of higher learning.

The college principal, V. K. Haridas, told reporters here today that the college was graded 84.2 per cent marks and missed the "A'' grade for want of 0.8 marks. The college got the accreditation based on a report submitted by a NAAC peer team comprising the chairman, S. P. Hiremath (former vice-chancellor, Kuvempu University) and members, B. G. Mulimani (professor of Physics, Karnataka University) and P. Jeyaram (principal, RVS College, Coimbatore), after inspecting the college from February 25 to 27, 2004.

The peer team appreciated the academic initiatives of the college, including "teachers diary'', a system to promote planned teaching, "interactive sessions'', which aim at promoting knowledge sharing and communication skills and credit rating system, which motivates students for higher performance at the university-level examinations. Also, the team appreciated the students'

feedback to improve faculty performance and tutorial systems to promote personal and academic counselling. It also noted the consistently good results the college students have got at the university-level examinations. The research committee to promote research aptitude among faculty and students and publications by faculty found special mention, Dr. Haridas said.

He said the college had a highly talented and experienced pool of faculty with average experience of above 20 years, including 24 with Ph.D degree and 24 with M.Phil degree.
