VIJAYAWADA, MAY 21. The spree of suicides by farmers in different parts of the State is continuing. Unable to bear the pressures of debt, a 65-year old tobacco farmer, Jasti Poornachandra Rao, committed suicide his residence at Ponnavaram village of Veerlapadu mandal in Krishna district on Friday morning. According to police, Rao, who consumed pesticide around 11.20 a.m., was shifted to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead. The deceased resorted to the extreme step as he could not get the minimum support price for his produce. The pressure from his creditors might have compelled him to commit suicide, police said. GUNTUR: A cotton grower, D. Venkateswara Reddy, of Karalapadu village in Piduguralla mandal committed suicide on Friday evening by consuming pesticide, but the police did not confirm the death of the farmer. The cause of the death is said to be inability to repay mounting debts, but it is yet to be confirmed.
