COIMBATORE, MAY 21. The farm gate price of broiler in the district is expected to remain stable at Rs. 35 a kg for 15 more days. The president of the Broiler Co-ordination Committee, R. Lakshmanan, said that the price had gone up by 10 to 15 per cent during the last 20 days and in the last four days it was Rs. 36 a kg. Prices usually went up in April and remained high till June-end. The production was around 40-lakh birds a week. Since the farm gate price was looking up, there would not be any reduction in production now, he said. The production cost increased to Rs. 29 a kg. now mainly owing to the hike in soya and maize prices. Maize and soya are the two main ingredients in poultry feed. Soya price was Rs. 11,000 a tonne and that of maize Rs. 5,500 a tonne. However, prices had now shot up to Rs. 15,000 a tonne for soya and Rs. 7,000 a tonne for maize.
