NEW DELHI, MAY 21. With the mosquito menace on the rise, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has launched a door-to-door survey to detect mosquito-breeding cases. Of the nearly 30-lakh houses visited, the MCD has detected mosquito breeding in 1,574 houses, while legal notices have been issued to 3,054 and prosecution has been launched against 501 offenders. As a result of its anti-malaria operations, officials claimed that there has been a steep decline in the number of malaria cases this year. "Only 22 cases of malaria have been reported so far this year, which is far less than those in the other metropolitan cities," an MCD official said. Meanwhile, the MCD has urged people to take precautionary measures to control vector-borne disease. Among the steps include cleaning desert coolers once a week and mopped drying before refilling, putting one table-spoon of petrol, kerosene or diesel if coolers are not cleaned every week and ensuring that the overhead and other water tanks are covered. The civic body has urged the people to ensure that water does not collect inside or around office premises in unused or broken bottles, cups, pots and tyres. The MCD said no additional cases of dengue have been reported so far. "No new strain or trend has been detected in Delhi," it said.
