NEW DELHI, MAY 22. The Congress and the BJP today fielded their Councillors for the all-important post of Chairman of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)'s Standing Committee. However, for the post of Deputy Chairman of the Committee, only a Congress candidate is in the fray. The elections to these posts will be held on May 25 From the Congress, Mukesh Goel has filed his nomination for the post of Chairman and will take on the BJP Councillor, Vijender Kumar. The fight is a mere formality as Mr. Goel is certain to win because Mr. Kumar is the only BJP member in the Congress-dominated Standing Committee. However, the recent unrest among Congress Councillors might make the contest interesting. And for the post of Deputy Chairman, Ashok Jain is the only candidate in the fray. Earlier this week, the Congress had witnessed indiscipline during the filling up of various vacancies in the Corporation. As a result, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president, Chaudhary Prem Singh, on Friday expelled three Councillors and issued show cause notices to two, including the Leader of the House in MCD, Satbir Singh.
