BJP meeting to decide stir plan

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MAY 22 . Unfazed by its defeat in the Lok Sabha polls, the local Bharatiya Janata Party unit has decided to launch a people's movement against "anti-people policies of the Sheila Dikshit Government". A meeting of the party's state executive committee has been convened for May 25 to chalk out a strategy.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held today under the leadership of the Delhi unit president, Harah Vardhan. It was noted with concern that after winning the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress Government in Delhi had become more aggressive and was planning to impose a huge burden of taxes on the people. Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Vardhan said that it was the duty of his party to protect the interests of the people and therefore it had been decided to launch a people's movement against such decisions. He stated that BJP had warned the people before the polls that they would have to face hike in various charges and taxes if they vote for the Congress. It is now revealed that the apprehensions of the BJP were coming true and the Congress Government was now all set to unleash a new regime of taxes.

Lashing out at the Sheila Dikshit Government, he said that it had granted judicial and police powers to private power distribution companies that were being misused to harass innocent citizens. It is unfortunate that instead of addressing the issues of faulty meters and inflated billing, the consumers were being threatened by the personnel of the power distribution companies. He said a large number of areas were facing power cuts and unscheduled load shedding for 10 to 12 hours without any respite. The irregular power supply had also affected the drinking water supply in large parts of the Capital with people going without water for days together. "The BJP will not allow the Sheila Dikshit Government to rest in peace till it works for the welfare of the people,'' he added.
