CHOPPADANDI (KARIMNAGAR DT), MAY 22. The Telugu Desam Party MLA-elect from Choppadandi and retired SRSP Chief Engineer, Sana Maruthi, has said that he would explore all possibilities to ensure integration of the SRSP Flood Flow Canal with the Yellampalli irrigation project in the district for optimum utilisation of Godavari river waters. Mr. Maruthi inspected the SRSP Flood Flow Canal project's proposed reservoir site in Mothe village and the canal along with the SRSP Flood Flow Canal Chief Engineer, K. Bagyatha Reddy, the Superintending Engineer, Sudhakar Rao, the Executive Engineers -- Tulasi Das and Khaja Ahmed -- and others on Saturday. He inspected the Mothe reservoir site and surveyed the submergence of some villages, flow of water, etc. Talking to newsmen at the proposed site, Mr. Maruthi said that he would ensure expediting of the Flood Flow Canal and removal all inhibitions about the project. He said that Flood Flow Canal was proposed for the utilisation of about 20 tmcft of floodwaters of the SRSP project, which was being wasted during the floods. As part of the Flood Flow Canal, it was proposed to construct mid-Manair dam which would store about 20 tmcft of water and the additional flood water of about 2.5 tmcft would be stored in Mothe reservoir in Ramadugu mandal. During the last two years, there were no floods from the SRSP project, he said and added that if the Yellampalli project was integrated with the Flood Flow Canal project, it would get assured flow of waters throughout the year. In the second phase of the Flood Flow Canal, a reservoir would be constructed in Gouravelli in Husnabad and provided to Jangaon regions in Warangal district and Alair in Nalgonda district. The Flood Flow Canal CE, K. Bagyatha Reddy said that the canal was one of the priority projects of the State Government. He said the Government had already spent Rs. 100 crores for the head regulator and canal works in Nizamabad district. He said that they were chalking out strategies for the completion of all grounded projects within five years. On the project Mothe reservoir, he said that they were exploring all possibilities to avoid submergence and displacement of the people. He said that they were chalking out strategies for integration of the Yellampalli project with the Flood flow canal. The Yellampalli project is designed for the utilisation of about 40 tmcft of water, he added.
