Heat wave to continue

Forecast: Heat wave conditions are likely to continue for two more days. Maximum temperature would be around 40 degrees Celsius. At Waltair, the maximum temperature was 33.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum 28.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 68 per cent and at 5.30 p.m was 70 per cent. At Airport, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 40.6 degrees Celsius and 29.6 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 58 per cent and at 5.30 p.m was 51 per cent. The maximum and minimum temperatures at Dolphin's Nose were 34.8 degrees Celsius and 27.0 degrees Celsius respectively.

Awards for youth clubs

The Nehru Yuva Kendra Visakhapatnam will present its annual awards to youth associations and district-level best youth award for 2003-04. Youth clubs and youngsters in the age group of 18 to 35 who organised activities such as vocational training camps, awareness seminars, Shramadan, sanitation, AIDS prevention etc. may apply with documentary evidence to the Nehru Yuva Kendra Office in Maharanipeta on or before May 31. Further particulars can be had from the district youth coordinator, B.J. Prasanna.

Summer camp

Smile World A/C School in Seethammadhara North Extension area will conduct a free summer coaching camp in drawing and a workshop in fabric painting on its premises from May 24 to 31. Interested children and women may enrol their names over telephone no: 5523738 or in person.

Free Gita course

The local chapter of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Pandurangapauram will start a fresh batch of free Gita course on Sunday. According to the president of the chapter, Samba Das, the Bhagavadgita would be taught comprehensively in English every Sunday from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for those over 20 years of age.

CEEP to be held today

The Common Entrance Examination for Polytechnics (CEEP-2004) will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, and not Monday as published in these columns on Saturday.

BSNL customer meet

The Telecom District of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will conduct customer meets at 10 a.m. on Monday to redress their grievances like non-functioning of telephones, delays in providing new connections and instrument shifting, excess metering, etc. However, the complaints are restricted to those already represented and not solved through the normal channels, says a BSNL release. For the Telecom District, the meet will be held at the Dwarakanagar second lane office of BSNL.

Art of living camp

The local centre of Vyakti Vikas Kendra is organising a six-day special art of living summer camp for youngsters in the 15-20 age group at the youth hostel beside YMCA on Beach Road from Tuesday. Free yoga camp for kids

The AP State Yoga Society is conducting a free weeklong yoga camp for children in the 8-16 age group at the NSTL School from Sunday, as part of its Yoga Year observance. Interested children can register their names with the organising secretary, V.M. Kalyani (Tel: 2529713).
