HYDERABAD, MAY 22. The first session of the newly-constituted 12th Legislative Assembly commencing on May 31 is likely to be a short one lasting only five days. According to the Secretary, Legislature, K. Tuljanand Singh, the first day will be dedicated to the election of the pro tem Speaker and the swearing-in of all the 294 members. The absentees will take the oath later during the session. The pro tem Speaker will be appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Chief Minister. In the present House, the Congress MLA from Sathivada in Vizianagaram district, P. Sambasivaraju, who is the senior most member, is likely to be nominated to the post in tune with convention. The second day's proceedings of the Assembly include election of the regular Speaker. The election will be avoided if the Congress nominee does not have a rival from the Opposition. Later at 4 p.m. that day, the Governor will address the House. The business of the House over the remaining days will be decided by the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly which will meet on the third day.
