By Our Sports Reporter

KOZHIKODE, MAY 23. Y. Sandeep maintained his sole lead after the sixth round of the National sub-junior boys' chess championship at the Chess India Complex here on Sunday. After shocking the top seed G.N. Gopal on Saturday, he upset second-seeded T. Abhay in the fifth round earlier in the day.

With three rounds remaining, Sandeep has a remarkable score of six points and leads his nearest rival K. Vijay Keerthi by half-a-point. The day also saw Gopal suffering another unexpected loss, this time to B. Adhiban.

Sandeep employed Sicilian Defence against Abhay and was a pawn up in a minor piece ending. White lost on time on the 42nd move. "I think he could've drawn in the ending,"" said Sandeep.
