Rohit dazzles

BANGALORE, MAY 24. Rohit R. Hawaldar led BAC's gold rush in the State junior and sub-junior aquatic championship at the Jayanagar pool here. Rohit bagged the 1,500m freestyle and 200m freestyle golds with new meet records in the Group I boys' section.

In the 1,500m, Rohit showed his class clocking 17 minutes 17.55 seconds. The splendid effort bettered the National mark of 17:57.0 set by teammate Chetan Sharma in 2003. Rohit also erased the State mark of 18:01.03 which again was held by Chetan Sharma. Chetan finished second with 17:19.84.

The 1,500m gold in the girls Group I section went to V. Sivranjani, but it was well below her National and State records.

In Group II, N.A. Sandeep set a new meet mark in the 800m freestyle with 9:36.95 and so did M. Kshipra in the girls' Group II 800m event (10:28.03). In Group III, M. Siddarth of KCR won two golds in the 50m and 200m butterfly while in Group IV, S. Abhinav of PMSC, powered his way to two golds in the 50m butterfly and 200m individual medley races.

In the diving contests, Rahul Kutre of Belgaum won the 1m springboard event for boys while in the girls' section Amrita Mohite of Abba took the gold and Pooja of DAC secured the silver.

Group III: 200m freestyle: Siddarth M. (KCR) 2:24.72. 50m butterfly: Siddarth. 32.39.

Group IV: 50m butterfly: S. Abhinav (PMSC) 34.46. 200m indvidual medley: S. Abhinav 2:58.70

Girls: 200m freestyle relay: V. Tejaswini (MSC 2:21.40. 1,500m freestyle: V. Sivaranjani (BAC) 19 :06.56. 200m buterfly: C. Shuibha (MSC) 2:43.75. 4x100m medley relay: BAC `A' 5:19.69. NMR. Old: 5:23.73.
