Government staff gesture to ryots
B.V.Subba Rao, chairman of the committee, and three other leaders, in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, urged him to issue instructions for the recovery of the amount from the employees' salaries of May payable next month. The memorandum thanked Dr. Reddy for his "generosity" in implementing the promise on the supply of free power. The JAC while expressing concern over the suicides of farmers said it would back the government in providing relief to the farming community. The Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board Engineers' Association has resolved to contribute a day's salary, amounting to Rs 35 lakhs, towards provision of free power to farmers. Leaders of the association in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister demanded revision of the power purchase agreements, reduction of e-seva service charges and steps to improve revenue for providing satisfactory service to consumers. A. V. Sambasiva Rao, president, and G. P. Vijaya Ram Kumar, secretary-general of the association, pleaded for regularisation of services of assistant engineers recruited on contract basis. They wanted the Government to scrap contract employment.
YSR promises release of arrears to pensioners
A press release of the association said on Monday that Dr. Reddy acknowledged the support of the pensioners to the Congress in the elections. T. Gopala Krishna Murthy, president, and V. Seetharamaiah, joint secretary, were among those who met him.
Named Youth Congress secretary
HYDERABAD: T. Venkat Rao, president, Andhra Pradesh Youth Congress, on Monday appointed Perka Raju secretary of the APYC, a press release issued here by him said.
Appointed advisor to Government
Dr. Ramachandra Rao, who was a classmate of Dr.Reddy, is known in the political circles as the "man behind YSR" and is regarded his "eyes and ears" in politics.

According to the prosecution, brawl over collecting drinking water at a public tap led to an attack on Chalapati Mahalskhmiby Kumari with an empty vessel in October, 1997 last.
Mahalaskhmi succumbed to her injuries in the government hospital at Jangareddigudem a few days later. The Jangareddygudem SI, R. Nageswara Rao, framed the charge-sheet against the accused and investigated the case.
Former professor elected to key post
Incidentally, Prof. Reddy, a retired Professor and Director of Physical Education in Sri Krishna Devaraya University, Anantapur, is the first South Indian to have been elected president of the association, since its inception in 1980, according to a statement. He hails from Chinnamachupalle village in Cuddapah district.
A former Rotary Club president, he was awarded 14 Ph.Ds and eight M. Phils. and took part in international conferences in the U.S., Japan, Italy, South Korea and Australia. The next conference of the association would be held at Sangli in Maharashtra from July 9 to 11, he said in a statement on Monday.

Three more mandals in drought list
The Collector said in a notification that considering the rainfall deficiency during the south-west and north-east monsoon periods, decline in kharif crop area and fall in crop yield, it was deduced that drought existed in all the villages of three mandals during 2003-04.
Mining workers' plea to CM
The union's honorary president, Ch. Chandrasekhar Reddy and general secretary, D.R. Sreenivasa Rao, in a represented to the CM, demanded compassionate appointment of the kin of seven regular employees and 15 daily wage workers, whose families were in economic distress on account of death of their earning members.
