NEW DELHI, MAY 24. The Congress hopes that the DMK-centric "problem" will be "sorted out." Its leaders say they do not intend to "ditch" a valued partner. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, had a meeting with the Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dayanidhi Maran. In the evening, Mr. Maran met the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, and explained to her the "injustice" done to the DMK in the allocation of portfolios. He told The Hindu: "I told her that the agreement is not being honoured in allotting the portfolios. She was very much disturbed over the developments. She was displeased with the party and has promised to resolve the issue." He also told her that "we did not want to join the Ministry in the first place. We were forced to take part in the government because of your insistence. While so, we feel insulted when the agreement was not honoured."
