Sensex soars by 162 points

MUMBAI, MAY 24. The market welcomed the appointment of P. Chidambaram as Finance Minister as the Sensex soared by 162 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange today, on heavy purchases by operators and domestic financial institutions following clear indications that the process of economic reforms would be carried forward by the Congress-led government.
