Good response to SIM card system

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI, MAY 24 . The system introduced by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for registering for pre-paid starter SIM cards in Tiruchi, Karur, Pudukottai and Perambalur districts has evoked good response.

On the inaugural day today, over 5,000 applications were issued.

In a press release, the Tiruchi Telecom District General Manager said the registration would be done at the BSNL customer-care centres at the Tiruchi General Manager's officer, Mainguard Gate, Pudukkottai, Karur, Perambalur and Ariyalur.

Customers could register themselves with the following agencies approved by the BSNL: J.R. Communication for Tiruchi North District (Srirangam, Mainguard Gate, Thillainagar, Thuraiyur, Samayapuram, Lalgudi, Somarasampettai, Mannachanallur and Bikshandarkoil); Silpa Automec for Tiruchi South District (Cantonment, Airport, Edamalaipattipudur, Golden Rock, Jamal Mohammed College, Ponmalaipatti, Thiruverumbur, Manapparai, Enambuliyur and Musiri); and Silpa Agencies (Karur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai and Perambalur Districts).

He said a waiting list would be maintained. Only the applications issued by the BSNL free of cost would be considered. Each customer-care service centre and distributor would maintain separate waiting lists, and customers would be given an acknowledgement slip, containing their waiting number. They would be asked over phone or through letter to collect the card. If a customer failed to turn up within three days, his name would be deleted from the list. The SIM cards should be activated before June 25.

The General Manager called upon the customers to pay only Rs.200 for the starter pack. The next round of issue of applications would begin on May 31.
