DINDIGUL, MAY 25 . A sum of Rs.7.53 crores has been allocated to the district under Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana. In an official release here today, the Collector, P. Senthil Kumar, said the grant Rs.1.88 crores cash and 10,000 tonnes of rice worth Rs.5.65 crores would be utilised for improving the groundwater sources under the food-for-work scheme, a special component of the Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana. Priority would be given to improving the drinking water sources through rainwater harvesting. He said 714 drinking water works would be undertaken. Besides, 541 tanks and 119 bund canals would be desilted. Seven new tanks would be dug and 47 rural road works taken up. These works would be taken up by the panchayats. Manpower alone would be used. Dr. Senthil Kumar advised the panchayats to complete all the works before June 15.
