BJP parliamentary party meet on June 1

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MAY 25. The Bharatiya Janata Party's parliamentary wing will meet on June 1 to elect its leader, who will be the Leader of the Opposition, and plan its parliamentary strategy for the session beginning the next day, the party announced today. There are strong indications from the party that the former Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, will be elected leader, while the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will be the chairman of the parliamentary party and in all likelihood will continue to be the leader of the National Democratic Alliance.

The political situation was reviewed and the events have led to government formation were discussed at a meeting at Mr. Vajpayee's residence today. Mr. Advani, the BJP president, Venkaiah Naidu, and the former Finance Minister, Jaswant Singh, attended it.

The induction of Ministers who have criminal cases pending against them is likely to be the first "issue" the BJP and its ally, the Janata Dal (United), will take up in a big way.
