NEW DELHI, MAY 25. The Delhi High Court today issued notices to the Union Home Ministry, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha and the Batra Hospital here on a petition by the mother and brothers of the ailing Bahujan Samaj Party leader, Kanshi Ram, alleging that the hospital authorities were not allowing them to meet Mr. Kanshi Ram who has been under treatment there for about eight months. Taking note of the petition, Justice B.N. Chaturvedi asked the respondents to file their replies by May 31. He also directed the medical superintendent of the hospital to be present in the court along with the medical records of Mr. Kanshi Ram. In the petition, Mr. Kanshi Ram's mother, Bishan Kaur, accused the hospital authorities of not allowing her and her two sons to meet the leader. The petitioners urged the court to direct the Government and the hospital to give them free access to Mr. Kanshi Ram. They also sought police protection whenever they were in Delhi to meet the BSP leader. They urged the court to issue a direction for setting up an independent board of doctors to have a second opinion on Mr. Kanshi Ram's health. The petitioners submitted that they had tried to meet Mr. Kanshi Ram eight times in the past eight months that he had been in the hospital but the hospital authorities did not allow them.
