HYDERABAD, MAY 25. The Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted by the Government yesterday to go into the issue of suicide by farmers and ensure proper implementation of the welfare packages, will have its first meeting on May 30. It will finalise a plan of action to tackle farmers' problems, including suicides. This was announced by the Revenue Minister, D. Prasada Rao, to reporters on Tuesday after reviewing the situation at a meeting at the Secretariat. The Agriculture Minister, N. Raghuveera Reddy and officials from respective departments attended the meeting. Mr. Prasada Rao said the Government had asked banks not to pressure farmers for recovery of loans and drive them to despondency. The new Government was keen on improving the lot of farmers, he said. It was contemplating a credit package to boost their morale, he said. The Revenue Minister said they had asked the officials and district Collectors to reach out to distressed farmers and instil confidence in them. They could make suggestions, if any, for the farmers' uplift to the committee by May 29.
