CHENNAI, MAY 25. The seven DMK Ministers at the Centre will take charge on Wednesday following the resolution of the controversy over the allocation of portfolios. The DMK was today given charge of Shipping and Revenue departments. However, another department that the party wanted, Personnel (under the Home Ministry), was not given. The DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, made light of this: "We can look at it personally later," he said. Mr. Karunanidhi expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the talks with the Congress leadership. "This [the controversy] will not affect the image of the DMK," he added. The United Progressive Alliance has now decided to set up a grievance redress mechanism. A "steering committee" would be set up in the "next two days", he said. "All constituents of the UPA will be represented in this." Asked if he would head the committee, Mr. Karunanidhi said he did not have the time to be the head of such a committee.
