Nilgiris DFA storms back to beat Netaji

KAYALPATNAM, MAY 25. Down by two goals till the 36th minute, Nilgiris District Football Association rallied to beat 10-man Netaji SC (Chennai) 3-2 and entered the quarterfinals of the 39th annual Moulana Abul Kalam Azad memorial Trophy all-India football tournament at United Sports Club ground here on Tuesday.

Netaji, a replacement for the other Chennai outfit AGORC which cried off at the last minute, fielded only 10 players but did well to take a 2-0 lead. Both the goals were scored by Victor in the 18th and 24th minutes. However, the Nilgiris team bounced back to reduce the margin in the 36th minute through Raj Kumar. The side then took control before scoring the equaliser in the 67th minute.

In the remaining minutes, Netaji went all out and very nearly clinched the issue but Nilgiris found the winner through Magesh in injury time.
