Semifinalists spotted

KOCHI, MAY 25. The semifinalists have been spotted in both men's and women's sections in the 49th Bharat Petroleum National ball badminton championship held at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium here on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh completed the line-up in men's section. Favourite Tamil Nadu booked its passage into last four with a 29-24, 29-14 win over Hyderabad. In the semifinal, Tamil Nadu will meet Orissa which overcame Maharashtra State 29-28, 27-29, 29-27. Karnataka thrashed Himachal Pradesh 29-3, 29-4 while Andhra Pradesh breezed past Chattisgarh 29-6, 29-5 in other quarterfinals.

In the women's section, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka took their appointed places. Kerala will lock horns with Andhra Pradesh while Tamil Nadu will meet Karnataka in the semifinals.

The results (quarterfinals): Men: Tamil Nadu bt Hyderabad 29-24, 29-14; Karnataka bt Himachal Pradesh 29-3, 29-4; Orissa bt Maharashtra State 29-28, 27-29, 29-27; Andhra Pradesh bt Chhattisgarh 29-6, 29-5.

Women: Tamil Nadu bt Chhattisgarh 29-1, 29-18; Kerala bt Hyderabad 29-17, 29-2; Andhra Pradesh bt Chandigarh 29-21, 22-29, 29-20; Kerala bt Maharashtra 29-17, 29-15.
