This Day That Age
Presiding over the 44th Madras State Educational Conference in Tanjore on May 26, Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Vice-Chancellor of the Madras University, observed that education today in our country as well as in other countries of the world was a problem facing the masses, unlike what it was, say, half a century back; hence the solution demanded was also of different nature from the old conventional one. Referring to the language problem, Dr. Mudaliar emphasised the importance of English as an international language to have access to the treasures of knowledge in diverse fields. For some time to come at least, it could not be dispensed with as the medium of instruction for higher studies.
