3200 persons register for prepaid SIM cards

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI, MAY 26 . Over 3,200 persons today registered their names at five centres of Tirunelveli Telecom Circle and with an authorised agent for the prepaid SIM cards of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited as the Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle recently decided to maintain a `waiting list' for issue of prepaid SIM cards.

The registration was done at Customer Service Centre, Office of the General Manager, BSNL, Vannarpettai, Customer Service Centre, Telephone Exchange, Tenkasi, Customer Service Centre, Telephone Exchange, Sankarankovil, Customer Service Centre, Opposite Central Bus-Stand, Vallioor, Telegraph Office, Oorkaad Road, Ambasamudhram.

While the Customer Service Centre at Vannarpettai made over 2,200 registrations, the Tenkasi centre had over 400 registrations, followed by the centre at Valliyoor, which had over 350 registrations.

However, the response was lukewarm at Ambasamudhram and Sankarankovil customer care centres, which had 150 and 100 registrations only.

A top BSNL official here said the registration had to be controlled, as the stock of the prepaid cards was "limited". "The registration will continue tomorrow also as the response is overwhelming," he said.

Following the registration to find a place in the waiting list for the prepaid SIM card, the southern by-pass road wore a busy look today since hundreds of persons waited in a long queue to submit their applications.

The official once again made it clear that the dates of issue of SIM cards for the waitlisted applications would be notified through press statements in all leading newspapers. For all applications registered up to the declared date, SIM cards would be issued on these dates. If any applicant failed to receive the SIM card within the stipulated date, his name would be removed from the waiting list without any further intimation and the applicant would have to apply afresh.

According to an official statement issue tonight, those, who registered their names on May 26, will get the SIM cards on May 28, 29, 31 and June 1 on producing their token along with the payment of Rs. 200. If the applicant cannot come in person, he can authorise his representative with an authorisation letter to get the SIM cards.
