Two killed in accidents

TIRUNELVELI, MAY 26 . Two persons, including a youth, were killed in separate road accidents at Alangulam near here.

B. Sathish Kumar (30) of Thiyagaraja Nagar was going to Alangulam on a two-wheeler last night. When he was about to reach his destination, his vehicle hit a roadside milestone and the rider was killed on the spot.

In another mishap, S. Natarajan (35) of Tirunelveli Town was fatally knocked down by a speeding lorry last night when he was walking along the Alangulam bazaar road.

The Alangulam police have filed cases.

Farmer dies

A farmer was killed in a road accident near Kayathaar today when a van hit the moped which he was riding.

The police said U. Shanmugaiah (55) of South Ilanthaikulam under the Kayathaar police station limits sustained serious injuries when a Toyota Qualis van hit his moped. He succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.

The Kayathaar police arrested the driver, M. Senthilkumar (35) of Mayilankundu in Madurai district.

22 injured

Twentytwo persons, including 10 women, were injured near Cheranmahadevi today when a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus collided with a van.

The police said the van proceeding from Pattamadai to Papanasam had a collision with the Nagercoil-Tenkasi bus at the Four Junction road at Cheranmahadevi. All passengers in the van were injured. While one of the victims was taken to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, others were treated as outpatients.

The bus driver, S. Pandian (46) of Tenkasi, has been arrested.

Four hurt

Four persons, including a two-wheeler rider, were injured in separate accidents in Tirunelveli last night.

P. Jeevanandham (40), a two-wheeler rider hailing from Selvi Nagar at Thiruppanikarisalkulam near here was badly injured when a TNSTC bus, proceeding from Tenkasi to Tirunelveli, knocked him down on the Thiruvalluvar two-tier over-bridge. He was admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.

The police arrested the driver, S. Muthukumar (24) of Tirunelveli.

In the second accident, S. Subramanian (45) of Vadugapatti under the Seethaparpanallur police station limits, K. Ganesh Kumar (32) and P. Saravanan (25), also from the same area, were injured when a loaded autorickshaw, in which they were travelling, overturned at Senthamizh Nagar near Pettai last night.

The victims were admitted to the TVMCH.
