New format for Peace Cup

CHANDIGARH, MAY 26. In a bid to make snooker more interesting, a unique `Test' format would be introduced at the Rexello Castors India-Pakistan Peace Cup snooker tournament to be held here from June 17 to 20.

The two teams play three `Tests' comprising five singles and two doubles matches over three days to decide the winner of the Rs. 3 lakh prize money competition, tournament director and former world billiards champion Manoj Kothari said.

``There would be a draw of lots to determine the players for the singles and doubles matches and all matches would be best-of-three frames affairs,'' he said. Kothari said the first day of the four-day event would be reserved for a `Peace Match' and some trick shots display.

India would be represented by World amateur snooker champion Pankaj Advani, National champion Alok Kumar, former Asian champion Yasin Merchant, Asian Games gold medallist Rafat Habib and Manan Chandra.

The Pakistan team would be led by World amateur snooker championship runner-up Saleh Mohammed and includes former World and Asian snooker champion Mohammad Yousuf, Khurram Agha, Naveen Perwani and Imran Shezad. — PTI
